It has been roughly 24 hours since landing at Kansai International Airport.
To be honest, it all feels like a dream, some alternate reality that will vanish if I so much as blink for too long. That's probably just the jet lag talking, but given how long I've been yearning to be in Japan, the fact that I am now afforded the opportunity to be here is still mind-boggling.
I'm sitting in the living room of the Sato family's house, staring at my computer screen, typing up a post. In terms of stuff to stare at, it's pretty boring; I've been wide-eyed with awe at every waking moment, trying to take in as much as possible and relish the sights that I am now experiencing.
The Sato house is an old, traditional style house. Seriously, it feels like something out of a movie. This is the hall just to my left:
The corner of my room on the second floor:
And the view from out of our room window; you can see the top of Kishiwada castle in the distance.
I seriously can't believe that this is happening to me. Saying it's a dream come true doesn't even come close. There are only a handful of events that I can think of where I was more elated/ecstatic/overjoyed than I am now (getting married, for instance; I also expect having a kid will also be one of those, but I'll believe it when I see it).
Everything I've seen and heard, everything I've smelled and tasted (my first meal of chiraizushi was utter heaven) has been, well, intensified since I have arrived. Again, that might be the jet lag talking, but even so I am relishing this. I can hardly wait for tomorrow.
To sum it up in ten characters, :D :D :D :D :D
Ahhh, child o'mine, I'm smiling for you, over and over again. Dreams really do come true after all. Loves.
ReplyDeleteHow completely and totally fantastic. :D You're living the dream! Japan is so amazing, that when you sit down to blog about it, you think, "Did I really go there? Did that really happen to me? Or is this just all a magnificent illusion?" :)
